PRACTITIONERS & EXPERTS

Rob Castell & Paul O'Mahony started Symposium Tours together in 2019, having been inspired by many trips to Greece over the years. They are educators, writers and creatives with years of experience between them.
At Symposium Tours, we also work with the best professionals on the ground in Greece, be that cultural guides, theatre directors or lecturers. Our network is ever growing and always inspiring.

PAUL O'MAHONY

Paul O’Mahony is the artistic director of the multi award winning theatre company Out of Chaos whose shows have toured extensively in the UK, US, Europe and New Zealand.

Out of Chaos’s work spans devised multilingual productions, reinterpretations of classical texts and immersive experiences in various media. Other acting credits include work with the RSC, English Touring Opera, The Orange Tree Theatre and Out of Balanz, a leading physical theatre company based in Copenhagen. He was an Ancient History scholar and Classics Prize winner at the University of Oxford.

During the first lockdown of 2020 Paul started Reading Greek Tragedy Online  live streaming a different Greek tragedy every week; this project has subsequently involved over 120 actors from around the world, and now spans over 50 episodes. Paul is an Associate Director of Actors From The London Stage, and an Associate of Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies. He was eminent artist in residence at the University of Wyoming, and has a wealth of teaching and workshop experience (in Classics and theatre) with the British American Drama Academy, University of Notre Dame, University of Texas, the University of Oxford and many others.

ROB CASTELL

Rob Castell (MA International Relations) is an educator, writer and musician, currently working as Head of the Drama Enrichment programme at Downe House school. 
He has worked for the council as a performing arts programme leader, delivered workshops for organisations such as Mousetrap, Theatre Is... and Tip of The Iceberg.
He was previously an actor and co-founded Barbershopera Productions, which won a total of 6 Musical Theatre Network awards over four years. He played Pop in the International Arena Tour of We Will Rock You in 2013 and has performed all over the UK, at the Edinburgh Festival, in Florence and in Daegu, South Korea where he won the award for Best Actor in 2010. As a songwriter he has written for E4, CBBC and BBC Radio 4 and has also composed for several new musicals, at York Theatre Royal, the Nuffield Southampton, Plymouth Drum and for Out Of Chaos.
Rob started his career as a travel writer and wrote for Toyota Magazine and Berkshire Life after winning an award with the Guardian newspaper.
